Standard MHFA
Course summary:
You will be equipped with knowledge, skills, confidence and a practical and evidence-based action plan to recognise, understand and respond to another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
Topics covered:
Depression, Anxiety, Substance Use and Psychosis.
Crisis situations covered:
● Suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
● Non-suicidal self-injury.
● Panic attacks.
● Traumatic events.
● Severe psychotic states.
● Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use.
● Aggressive behaviours.

100% face-to-face (F2F): 2x 7hr training sessions.

100% online: eLearning (~5hrs) + Zoom training (5hrs).

Refresher courses are available to those that have completed the Standard MHFA course and its accreditation assessment within the last 3 years. These courses enable MHFAiders™ to revise their knowledge and skills and to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years.

● Re-learn the ALGEE action plan, the 3 key actions for suicide & the 4 L’s framework for measuring the impact of substance use.

You will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker or other person, experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
Key Learning Outcomes:
● Identify warning signs for suicide.
● Have a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
● Confidently support a person in crisis.

MHFA Conversations About Non-Suicidal Self-Injury

You will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker or other person, engaging in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).
Key Learning Outcomes:
● Why people engage in NSSI and how to talk to someone about their NSSI.
● How to help the person stay safe and find appropriate professional help options.

F2F: 4hrs
You will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker or other person, experiencing harm or a mental health crisis related to their gambling.
Key Learning Outcomes:
● How to approach someone about their gambling problems.
● Risk factors, signs, symptoms and motivations which may underpin gambling problems.
● How relapse might affect someone with gambling problems.
● How to manage your own self-care when helping someone with gambling problems.

MHFA Engaging Leaders
Online or F2F: 1.5hrs
As a leader, decision maker or influencer within an organisation, you will learn how MHFA training supports a culture of care and creates mentally healthy workplaces.
Providing this session to leaders, employers and managers will help them:
